Biography

IMG_3093Marcelo A. Perez (M’07, SM'14) was born in Concepcion, Chile, in 1976. He received the Engineer degree in electronic engineering, the M. Sc. degree in electrical engineering, and the D. Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Concepcion, Concepcion, Chile, in 2000, 2003, and 2006, respectively.

From 2006 to 2009 he held a postdoctoral position at the Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria, Valparaiso, Chile, conducting research in the area of high power converters. In 2009 he becomes an associate researcher and in 2015 he becomes an academic at the same institution.

Dr. Perez is currently an associated researcher of the Solar Energy Research Center (SERC- Chile) and the Advanced Center for Electric and Electronic Engineering (AC3E). He has coauthored two book chapters and more than 120 journal and conference papers. Dr. Perez was the recipient of the IEEE Industry Applications Magazine 1st prize paper award of 2012, the second best paper award in the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics in 2016. He has been the IEEE-IES Region 9 Chapter Coordinator and currently , he is President of the IEEE-IES Chapter Chile. Dr. Perez is Associated Editor in the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and  the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics

His main interest are power converters topologies and control, multilevel converters, power electronics simulation, electromobility, Smart Grids, HVDC systems and energy harvesting. He is cofounder of the SunAndPlay company in which develops energy harvesting solutions.
